I’ve always been a bit of a stick in the mud when it comes to Halloween. It’s not that I don’t like Halloween because I do. Who wouldn’t like a day that centers around begging for candy and eating sugar to your hearts content… because trust me, that’s right up my alley! I’ve just never been one to dress up. As a kid, I would torture my mother year after year with the idea that my costume had to be “pretty.” And as my friends would dress up as ghosts and goblins, I would be the good witch (no green face paint here), the princess or the cheerleader.
Time hasn’t really changed my demeanor towards Halloween… it’s just changed my approach. I’ve learned to enjoy the goulish holiday in my own way. I guess you could say, I like a more elegant approach to Halloween. That’s why I love the idea of decorating and entertaining in black and white. So, throw away the orange crepe paper and candy corn and try my Halloween on for size.
