Travel in Style

Posted On October 9th, 2009

My husband and I just arrived home from a week in London to celebrate our anniversary.  It’s funny.  When we plan a trip overseas, I begin to think of myself as a socialite in the ’50′s, traveling abroad in fabulous style.  I dream of wheeling a Louis Vuitton steamer trunk (which I don’t own and probably never will), through the airport as a car waits for me at the terminal.  I’ll look totally chic arriving with my hard vanity case, the kind with a lock and mirror on the inside lid, wearing a fabulous dress and killer heels.  My makeup will of course be flawless, for the stagnant recycled air will have had no effect on my perfectly balanced skin.  Can you hear me laughing through your computer?  Because my dream of traveling in the utmost style never actually comes to fruition.  What really happens is, I struggle getting my too big Samsonite luggage off the carousel as I hurry outside to grab a cab, tripping along the way.  And as I catch a glimpse of myself in the window… I notice my hair is in shambles and my makeup has completely rubbed off my parched skin.   Perhaps a stop in the restroom would have done me some good…. maybe next time.

Have you seen J.Crew’s new luggage pieces… perfection!  This vanity case in sour lemon would be the perfect addition to my traveling ensamble.  Unfortuantely at $800… I’ll have to just look from afar.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith is both a fabulous book and website.  It is a perfect resource on boutique hotels around the world.

Glam wipes are the perfect way to stay fresh-faced on a long flight.  They moisturize and cleanse at the same time… making you feel refreshed when you reach your destination.

If it’s going to be a long flight… why not make yourself comfortable with the ultimate in cashmere comfort travel kits.

Vintage Louis Vuitton Steam Trunk… Come to Momma!  Of course, the real thing would be way to valuable and precious to actually travel with but, to own one as a piece of furniture for my home… can you say fabulous!  I have the perfect corner in my home office where this would work.  I particularly love this one from 1915.

Lip Balm… I have to say this is by far the best lip balm I have ever owned.  And for $7 it is a steal.  Perfect to keep your lips hydrated on long flights.  Trust me, the lemon & chamomile is delightful.

A fabulous chic passport holder is a must have when traveling abroad!

The newest craze in technology… a Kindle.  Would sure make traveling without all those books must easier… but, I’m not giving in – I like my paper!

If comfort wasn’t an issue… this would for sure be the outfit to travel in.  How chic would I look?

I always take a journal with me when my husband and I travel.  At the end of the day, I write down all the things we did and the places we went… this way, we never forget.

I’ve always had a thing for luggage tags and I love the bright colors and fun shape of this one from Hayden-Harnett.

  1. Welcome back! I hope you had a good trip and that you’ll share some pictures of cool London-y things with your blog readers. (Plus, I now want to try out that lip balm. Good call.)
