Looking through the newest J.Crew catalog the other day brought me a rush like no other. As, I casually flipped through the pages, dreaming of all the pretty clothes… I suddenly became transfixed on something entirely different. My heart started to pound, my palms got sweaty and it was as if I was in high school all over again. It was as if my secret crush was walking by me in the hallway… No, it was worse, it was if my secret crush was walking past me holding hands with his new girlfriend. But, it was a different kind of crush. It was the type of crush my husband fears the most, the kind that will cost him money. Because there in the background, behind the model, slightly out of focus was the most beautiful specimen I had ever seen… a vintage pink typewriter! I began my obsession that very minute.
Some say love at first sight isn’t possible. I beg to differ. It was all I could think about, I had to have it. I began my search, ebay, etsy, vintage websites and more. My husband walked by me and just sighed, “you’re not going to give this up, are you?” I assured him it wasn’t a passing faze, that this was the real thing… love! And then there it was, in immaculate condition with its original carrying case, not a scratch to be found for $600!!! At this point, I new I had to let it go. As the saying goes, “if you love something set it free” and so I did. As quickly as the pink typewriter entered my life, it left… sigh!
In my quest for the perfect pink typewriter, I found plenty of other fabulous objects to fit my typewriter fancy. Lettered cotton tape to wrap my newly typed letters in. The original advertisement from the 1950′s to hang in my office. A vintage typewriter ribbon tin to keep paper clips in. A beautiful arrangement of flowers to sit on my desk as I type away (humming 9 to 5), maybe sitting next to a pink phone. And of course, my first true love, letterpress stationery adorned with a vintage typewriter motif. So, for now these will have to do and hopefully one day, we will meet again!
P.S. Don’t tell my husband, but I’m bidding on e-bay for one… wish me luck!
Write more… Type less (unless it’s on a pink typewriter),

I felt the same exact way, although, I am secretly dreaming about that same typewriter model, but in red (to match my office). I love all of the other typewriter accessories you have found, especially the note cards. Good luck on your bidding!
