Part 2… Fall Trends

I have a confession, I’ve been feeling a bit grey lately… but in a good way!  Grey is the new black this fall and I am loving every bit of it.  My love affair with the color began a few years ago when the first images of Martha Stewart’s new home in Bedford, New York were released.  I remember vividly, as I received my September 2003 issue of her famed magazine, and there on the cover was Martha’s brand new state of the art kitchen.  My heart began to beat faster as I studied the photos.  Here was a kitchen so amazingly beautiful that I could only dream of having it one day.  Until, I realized there was hope after all.  There was one part of her kitchen that was attainable right away…  the paint color.  Shades of grey were scattered through Martha’s kitchen (and entire home) and this once cold color suddenly came to life for me.  A simple glass of orange juice on the counter looked amazingly beautiful as the bright orange of the liquid took center stage.  Stacked plates and bowls became sculptures as they lay in the cabinets.  I knew from that very moment, I must paint something in my home grey.

Having just moved into a newly built home, it took some convincing for my husband to agree to the change.   And with what he may call nagging and I would call persistence… I finally won!  I choose the palest of greys to adorn my sun room walls and it was the best decorating decision I have ever made.  My once beautiful room became fabulous.  Accessories that I painstakingly picked out through the years now caught my eye.   My treasured piece of red coral became a shining light, while my stone fireplace, that I agonized over building, took center stage.  You see… grey is just about the most fabulous neutral out there.  It kindly sits back and stays behind the scenes while it allows all around it be in the spotlight.  So go out there… bring some grey into your life… you won’t only be on trend this fall… but you’ll be happy you did it!

It’s amazing what a coat of paint can do.  I am loving how the grey in this dining room from House and Home has a warm and cozy feeling.

If you know me, you know I am completely obsessed with Tory Burch.  I guess I’ll just have to buy these ballet flats so I’m trendy this year… what’s a girl to do?

How beautiful is this flower arrangement by Saipua.  I love how the flowers cast a simple cool purple tone while remaining neutral.

Oval Wallpaper…  Wallpaper isn’t only for your mom anymore.  Designers such as Jocelyn Warner have made them popular once again with their beautiful graphics and modern appeal.

This grey cardigan from Calypso (one of my favorite stores in the whole world) is a perfect way to update your fall wardrobe.  Simply, layer it over a summer dress and voila… a new outfit is born!

My agendas… I’m loving the silver metallic of the my agenda collection this year.  This is hands down one of our most popular items every year.  Call Rock Paper Scissors for pricing.

Why is when you put skulls on stationery it is so darn cute???  Available at Rock Paper Scissors.

I’m loving this flower ring available on Etsy!  For only $10, it’s a great way to add grey to your wardrobe without breaking the bank.

Great… just what I need…a new item to obsess over and I think I found it.  Seriously, how cute would my pink typewriter (which I still haven’t found) look on this beautiful soft grey desk?

Ok, I admit this grey plaid jacket by Burberry may not be the most economical way to add grey to your wardrobe.  But… come on this is GORGEOUS!!!

The photo that started my love affair with grey… the image of Martha’s kitchen from the September 2003 issue.

Belts aren’t going anywhere this fall and this stylish grey one is perfect way to update your collection.

Yet another fall trend.. hats!  How cute is this grey knit one from Anthropologie?

Scarves have become a year round accessory… so this grey one from Madison Los Angeles is actually an investment!

  3. What a great blog you have here! It’s very inspirational and I feel the exact same way about grey. So much that I am planning a wedding next fall and it’s in my palette of colors. Just classic!

  5. Lauren: Love your blog! I was in the other day and missed you! Congrats on your new home. I have to agree, grey is a beautiful shade. I’ve been seeing a lot of grey flannel in home furnishings. Is there anything better? Hope to see you soon. R.

  7. I love this post! So often it seems like gray (or grey) gets a bad rap. It’s wonderful! Even in darker shades, it’s great. My bedroom is a blue/gray, and it’s quite nice. In the daytime it has one look, and by night it’s completely different. (Ironically, it’s a Martha Stewart color.) And I’m enjoying Martha’s stools.

Good for you for taking paint by the brush and doing it up right.
