FALLing for Lace

Posted On August 24th, 2009

The fall season is fast approaching and as the weather gets colder, my palms begin to sweat.  Fall means new fashion, new trends, new colors, new patterns… it can really make your head spin.  Every year a slight panic ensues me as I wonder if the items I loved last year will be considered out of date.  I can hear Heidi Klum in my head right now… “you’re either in or you’re out.”  And to make matters worse,  trends don’t stop with what you wear… they carry over into your home, foods, stationery and more.  Is it  a roll arm or a straight arm sofa this year?  Is everyone drinking cosmos or martinis?  Are wedding invitations engraved or letterpress… does it ever end?????

So, I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands.  I’ve compiled a list of the top trends for the Fall of 2009 and we’ll tackle them together over the next few blogs.  We’ll see how we can incorporate them into our lifestyles.  You may not be able to get a new sofa every year, but how about some new pillows?   And while a new wardrobe may not be feasible… a few key pieces are completely attainable.  So see, it’s not going to be that bad after all.  We are “in” this together…. so, say it with me… I’m not going to panic… I’m not going to panic!

First up… Lace!

Lace

Round Rug…  ummm, can we say FABULOUS!  This wool felted rug is a contemporary take on lacemaking and I’m in love!

Lace Boot Heels… so cute with last years skinny jeans!

Clutch… lace may be trendy this year but this clutch is sure to become a classic.

Pressed Lace Dish…  I love ingenuity and this dish is a perfect example. Pressed with an antique doily to form it’s pattern before being glazed, this dish is delicate and sturdy all at the same time.

Stationery available at Rock Paper Scissors…  We all know I love stationery but this new letterpress set has me swooning.  Not only is it beautiful and delicate but it is cost effective too. Our new line from Haute Papier is available letterpressed or flat printed…  I love options!

Art Nouveau Bowl…  This is hand painted so beautifuly, I had to look twice to be sure it wasn’t real lace.

Wallpaper…  This wallpaper by Nina Campbell would be beautiful in a bathroom or even a closet.  Photo credit from House Beautiful magazine.

Lace Vace… a perfect project for Do it Yourselfers!  This vase made from a vintage lace doily has a uniquely modern look.  Click here for instructions.

Earrings… bright, fun and classic all at once!

Lace Wedding Cake… via Real Simple Weddings.  This may be just to pretty to eat.

Black Dress by Trina Turk.  Ladies, we’ll have to wait for this one… it’s not due out till October, it’s part of the Holiday 09 collection.  But, this is sure to become your staple Little Black Dress for years to come.

Leggings… so cute with a simple colored shift!

  1. Admittedly, I don’t have to worry too much about trends. Even though men’s fashion does change a bit each year, it’s not drastic. Plus, most guys don’t even know or care what is in or out–especially in my part of the Volunteer State. :)

But I like your new attitude about it. Buying classic pieces and then mixing in a few trends is always the way to go. And I support buying quality for the classics. For me, that means J.Crew, Gap, and Banana Republic for the most part. I pick up some shirts here and there from Target and Old Navy, and I feel somewhat natty. Hehe.
