Have you ever wanted to like something, but you just can’t. Maybe you really want to like modern art, but you just don’t get it. Or you want to like sushi but it just plain gags you. Well for me, it’s coffee. I want to like it… I really do! I tell myself that if I could just get myself to like coffee, I would feel more worldly. My friends are convinced if I just take a sip of their favorite concoction I’ll finally see the light. But it never happens… I just haven’t acquired the taste. I want to be fancy and sit outside a Parisian cafe sipping espresso… I want to stand in line at a coffee shop and order something complicated like a tall non-fat soy caramel macchiato no whip with extra foam. Instead, I sit at my table, glance at the paper and hope no one notices my hot apple cider or hot chocolate. I play the part well and to the naked eye no one would notice but essentially, I’m a faker… a big ‘ole wanna be!
The strange thing is I love all things coffee. I love waking up to the sweet aroma of coffee drifting through my house. I love coffee mugs on stationery. I even want to frame and hang a used burlap bean bag in my kitchen. I love the idea… just not the actual thing. And while I may not ever crave that steaming hot cup of Joe… I can live vicariously through all of you. So to all of you coffee lovers out there, just know there are others like me. We are sitting on the sidelines watching from the bench, hoping that one day we will be put in the game.
Write more… Type less,
Lauren
