Back in high school, I worked in a bakery. It wasn’t just any bakery, not the Krispy Kremes of these days… it was the old fashioned New York/New Jersey bakery… the kind with white boxes, seven layer cakes, jelly donuts, cookies by the pound and baker’s twine. Besides playing baseball with the Italian bread and rolls (and people wonder why I’m a germ-a-phobe… go figure) my other favorite past time at work was wrapping boxes with baker’s twine. I loved the huge ball of striped rope that dangled from the ceiling and with precision and speed, I could wrap your 2 pounds of cookies in warp time. The key was knotting the twine tightly so the it could be used as a handle to carry out your boxes of confectionery heaven. And while I may not use bread for batting practice anymore… I sure do love me some baker’s twine!
