A Royal Flush

Posted On August 10th, 2009

I admit it… I was one of the lucky ones.  When I attended college, I didn’t have to work, my parents paid my way and I had no student loans.  Essentially, I was a princess.  Except for summer jobs, I was lucky enough to only have to study and make good grades.  However, the very day I moved back home with my parents after graduation, I was in for a rude awakening… literally.  I was woken up by my parents, standing over me, banging a pot with a wooden spoon singing, “princess, your reign is over.”  So, I pounded the pavement, found my first job in the fashion industry, bought a car on my own and ended my reign as the household royalty.

I think this is why I’m so drawn to crowns to this very day.  It makes me feel like my reign continues… if only in my mind!  And while I am still blessed with parents who treat me fabulously, I’m hoping the tables will turn and I will be able to treat them like the true royalty they are.

RoyalFlush

Gold Crown plates by Rosana… doesn’t this make you want tea and crumpets.

Hummingbird print… so cheeky and cute!  I would put this print in my house in a second, but wouldn’t it look fabulous in a little girl’s room?

Crown hooks from Areo Home… maybe you wouldn’t loose your keys so much if you had a place to hang them.

Gold Crown on table… would look great on a stack of books.

Cookies… if you knew me, you would know I never pass up a cookie and these look too good to eat!

Bird with crown print…  you know I love this because of the school paper in the background?

Light fixture… the gold crown details are subtle enough that this isn’t tacky.

Blue Crown print… perfect for a girl or boy’s room or even in a shabby chic home.

Crown charm and necklace by Helen Ficalora… we are a bit obsessed with Helen Ficalora’s charms at our shop.  I wear my necklaces almost everyday.

Decanters available at Neiman Marcus.

I am so enamored with the artwork of the black crown print from Ann Carrington… because it is actually not a print at all, but made of pearl buttons.  The photo was taken of Gwenyth Paltrow’s home from House and Garden magazine.  So she’s skinny and has a great house!  I hate her!

Earrings by Dark Queen.. love the subtle upside down crown.

Paperweight available at Horchow.

Distressed Mexican wooden crown available at Wisteria.

Royal stationery from Rock Paper Scissors.

Metal Crown available at Rian Rae… is it weird I want to wear this?
