The Gift that keeps on Giving

Posted On December 4th, 2009

In the words of Cousin Eddie, “It’s the gift that keeps on giving”.  I think we all have the perfect gift in mind for the holidays… a car, diamond ring, puppy… the list can go on and on.  But, what truly is the perfect gift… doesn’t cost much, if anything…. it’s simply a handwritten recipe.  When my grandmother passed away, she left me her recipe box.  A simple sentiment that I will forever treasure.  With e-mails and downloads, I think we all have forgotten what it is like to write a recipe out by hand.  But let me tell you, there is no gift in the world that could be better then the gift my grandmother gave me.  Her recipes, written in her own hand, are more then just delicious family favorites.  She gave me a look inside her world… a piece of her to cherish and to hold on to.  I love thumbing through her recipes…  seeing a grease stain… scribbles of tweaks to a recipe here and there… or a shopping lists written on the back of a lasagna recipe.  So, remember as you trudge through the malls and fight the endless crowds… the perfect gift may be in your very home.  It simply takes a pen, a note and some time.

Write more… Type less,
Lauren

  3. You’re so right. A handwritten anything is pretty much the be-all and end-all to me. Stationery + food? Yes, please.
