Half Full or Half Empty?

Posted On November 23rd, 2009

In my recent travels, I have noticed a trend in boutique hotel decor.  Besides the fabulous linens and spa products, which make me giddy, many places have been installing HALF shower doors in the bathrooms.  In fact, you can’t really call them doors, because it merely is a pane of glass that extends HALF way across the length of the shower.  While aesthetically pleasing, I must be missing something because I clearly am doing something wrong… I get water everywhere.  In London, I flooded the bathroom floor on a daily basis and had to make an area rug out of towels.  I even asked the front desk for a tip to avoid the monsoon and they looked at me as if I had HALF a brain.  In Atlanta this past weekend, the damage was HALF as bad, but none the less, there was no walking in socks in the bathroom after the shower.  And as I was mopping up my watery mess, I blurted out to my husband… “why half a door… half of anything isn’t good!”  But, you know… I have been known to be wrong on occasion (very few, of course)…  there a plenty of fabulous things where half of something is just enough and in some cases pretty fabulous.  So, while I stand by my original critique of half shower doors as being just plain dumb… I concede that sometimes a glass can be half full!

  1. I totally agree about the half shower door–dumbest idea ever. And some halfs are totally good! (Halves? Ha.) Half-sandwich and soup for lunch? Yes, please. Cookies that are half-black, half-white? Ditto. I even have a half-sister, and she’s awesome! :)
